New York City is very much two things; a walking city and a city of style. There are just as many shoe repair shops as there are coffee shops on every street. Although I walk a lot while living in NYC, I walk even more while I’m visiting and exploring new cities. Sneakers or flip flops might be the most comfortable option but I often I end up staying out all day and need shoes that can take me from sightseeing straight to dinner and drinks. These are my go-to shoes that help me keep up with my day to night city adventures.
Ballet flats are the easiest option when it comes to packing. While they are not the most supportive I find there is rarely and occasion in the city that a pair of ballet flats are not appropriate. I always try and find a real leather pair (making them a little bit more flexible and breathable) and add in some insoles to keep them comfy all day.
I love wearing tall leather boots but I often find wearing them all day is not very comfortable and need something more breathable. While I’m traveling I prefer short leather ankle boots. My go-to ankle boots are by Sam Edelman. I have them in several colors. You can always do basic black and brown but they have the same style in prints or with details like tassels or other hardware.
If it is warm enough when you are traveling leather sandals are a good alternative to ankle boots. The options are endless, they’re easy to wear and you can never really pack too many pairs. Make sure you break them in before your trip!
Espadrille flats have recently come back into style so you can find them everywhere and at all different prices. I love that they come in so many cute patterns and prints and have a little more personality!
